Duško Dukić (15.11.1986 - 07.10.2008)

The first DUKAFEST was organized after the early demise of our friend and colleague Duško Dukić “Duka”, a student of Film and television directing at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka (AABL) , a drummer of a band “Guttenberg’s press”, and a employee of Radio-television of Republic of Srpska. Initiative for the fest was made by his friends, also students at Academy of Arts.

“DukaFest 2008″, a joint activity by students of AABL and “VizArt” -  Association for visual culture, was a single day review of student films from the region. Some of the film schools that participated are: Faculty for Drama Arts Belgrade, BK Academy Belgrade, Academy for performing arts Sarajevo and Academy of Arts Banja Luka. Review  was organized in three blocks, and a total number of 40 movies were screened. During that day a fine art exhibit also took place in multiplex “Palas” where the screenings were. In addition, almost everyone that visited the review received a “DukaFest” t-shirt and a DVD of Duka’s last film “Drugog puta nema (There is no other way)”.

There was also an “in memoriam” punk rock marathon in Banja Luka Students Club. Bands that participated are SPIDFRIK, PATRICKS, ISPAD! and GLAZGOV KOLAC

A credo of DukaFest 2008 was “There is no other way” which is also a title of Duka’s last film, it serves us as a guideline that we only deserve and can make a student festival happen if we stick together.

The next year, students of drama arts at AABL are establishing “KROV” (Organization for stimulus and development of culture) and take on organizing an international student film festival “DukaFest 2009″ which is three days long.

For the first time it is a competing festival. We awarded the best fiction and the best documentary film. The members of the jury are: prof. Predrag Solomun, prof. Drago Vejnović and Goran Trubajić, the representative of Radio-television of Republic of Srpska – general media sponsor.

The Award for the best fiction went to Amra Mehić for the film “Zgarište (The Ruin)” (Academy of performing arts, Sarajevo) and the  award for the best documentary went to Kevin Kirchenbauer for the film “Reproduktion” (Germany).

Now traditionaly, there was a punk rock marathon at Banja Luka Student’s Club and the band that performed are: Pajperov smijeh, Ispad! and Patricks.

This year “DukaFest” lasts for four days. Prizes for the best fiction, the best documentary and the best directing will be awarded by the festival itself, as will be a prize for the best editing, which is a courtesy of Radio-television of Republic of Srpska. The members of the jury are: Srđan Vuletić, Dejan Zečević, Mladen Đorđević and Saša Hajduković.

This year’s music program is better than ever. It’s filled with performances by renown punk rock bands from Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina and it will last for all four days. As usual, all events during “DukaFest” are totally free of charge.

This year’s festival is held between 12th and 15th of November 2010, on Duka’s birthday.

This is our way to celebrate it.
